Everyone's asking AI for advice now. Whether it's career moves, relationship dilemmas, or life-changing decisions, millions of people are turning to ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini for guidance.
But which AI actually gives the best advice? We tested all three on real scenarios to find out.
The Test: 5 Real Life Decisions
We presented each AI with the same five scenarios:
- "Should I leave a stable $150K job to join an early-stage startup?"
- "My partner wants to move cities for their career. I don't want to go."
- "I'm 35 and considering going back to school for a career change."
- "My co-founder and I disagree on the direction of our company."
- "I feel stuck in life but can't pinpoint why."
What We Found
ChatGPT (GPT-4o)
Strengths: Comprehensive, structured responses. Good at listing pros and cons. Responds well to follow-up questions.
Weaknesses: Often hedges excessively. Tends toward "it depends" without helping you figure out what it depends on. Can feel like reading a well-organized Wikipedia article rather than getting genuine counsel.
Claude (Anthropic)
Strengths: More nuanced emotional intelligence. Better at acknowledging the feeling behind a decision, not just the logic. Asks clarifying questions that actually help you think.
Weaknesses: Sometimes over-empathizes to the point of not giving a clear direction. Can be verbose.
Gemini (Google)
Strengths: Good at incorporating real-world data and practical considerations. Strong on career and financial decisions.
Weaknesses: Less emotionally attuned. Can feel transactional. Sometimes surfaces generic advice that doesn't account for personal context.
The Real Insight: Single-AI Advice Has a Ceiling
The biggest takeaway from our test wasn't which AI "won." It's that asking a single AI for advice has the same limitation as asking a single friend: you get one perspective, shaped by one set of training biases.
The real power comes from hearing multiple perspectives simultaneously. When you see how a pragmatist, an empath, a contrarian, and a philosopher each interpret the same situation, you develop a richer understanding than any single viewpoint can provide.
What About Multiple AI Models Together?
This is exactly the idea behind multi-perspective AI tools. Instead of asking one model and taking its word, you can:
- See how different "thinkers" approach the same question
- Identify where perspectives converge (strong signal) and diverge (blind spots to explore)
- Develop your own synthesized view
Our Recommendation
Don't rely on any single AI for important decisions. Use them as thinking partners, not oracles. And if you want to shortcut the process of consulting multiple perspectives, try tools specifically designed for multi-perspective exploration.
Perspektiv lets you explore any question through multiple AI-powered perspectives simultaneously. Try it free — no sign-up required to start.
